It’s been a little while… Ryan went to Disney, Scott has been on 1000 podcasts, and both have been working to make #SFB11 the best SFB yet!
We thought this would be a good place to answer a few questions before the shows start back up again! We may discuss some of these on the show briefly as well. Please keep them coming and make sure to mention where you are writing from!
Hey guys
Matt from SLC, Utah. Curious of your thoughts on using Team QB instead of independent QB. I’ve added this to one of my high stakes leagues and all league members are good with this. Saints could be the only unfair advantage I can think of but tell me your thoughts. Just found this pod while listening to MG interview Scott. Thanks appreciate your time.
Hey Matt!
There really aren’t too many drawbacks to this. It’s a pretty normal setting (hence why it’s available on league hosts) and it’s much more prevalent the bigger the league. For example 20 team leagues, 32 team leagues, etc. I don’t see the Saints QB thing being an issue since everyone has a fair shot to draft them. Know your settings and scoring. The only real issue is for waivers, amount roster spots, do you set limits on hoarding like some leagues do with Team Defense. A system like this can lead a team to hoard so a team might not have a Team QB because of multiple on BYE. This setting insulates you from injury, but makes you slightly more suceptible to that issue. So be aware of that. But all in all, play what you enjoy and it’s a fun setting. It is definitely a good setting for bigger leagues.
I've seen Twitter chatter with people wondering how to handle the new bye week in Week14, the playoffs and an 18-week season.
I'm running a 12-team league with MFL and here's how we will be handling things.
There will be no playoffs, but there will be a 22-game regular season over Weeks 1-17.
With 12 teams, every team plays every other twice—with five doubleheaders so it is a balanced schedule.
Those doubleheaders are all in bye-free weeks: Weeks 4 & 5--and then Weeks 15, 16 & 17.
Again, no playoffs, but the 3 doubleheaders to end the season should be like the playoffs with almost every team still in it for season-long prizes.
All best,

Hey Steve!
I’m adding this to the email so people see it and can consider it. We’ve talked pretty extensively about the extra week and things you can do. Not a lot of people love leagues with no playoffs, but I found this one interesting with the extra emphasis in the final weeks. You can essentially make up 6 weeks of ground in the final 3 weeks (out of a 22 week setup). It may be complex for many, but our listeners / readers tend to love this kind of stuff! Thanks!
Hi guys,
This is Robby out of Topeka, KS. Was listening to the podcast, learning a lot. You were talking about the end of a dynasty league being inevitable, and how to end it. During the podcast you brought up partnering for the whole year to keep the worst teams still active. What about a hybrid of that, but with a redraft feel? They partner off like you said, but those 2 teams go into a pool and they draft back and forth with the better team getting the choice to pick 1st or 2nd, then snake like a redraft so the teams are better distributed. This should help even the playing field. With the best teams giving up so much, the rookie draft would be flipped from normal, meaning the champion from last year would get the 1.01.
This should help even the league back out for the last year, but also allow the better teams to get better rookie picks that they may not be accustomed to. But it could also upset those same people due to giving up what they worked so hard for throughout previous years.
Look forward to hearing what you guys think. Love the show, keep it up!

Hey Robby!
That would definitely create parity in the final season… however I think it’s a hard sell. The idea came from allowing a person who has built his/her team into a powerhouse one last year to play with that team they worked so hard to build. In this scenario, it’s getting torn down. I don’t think getting the 1.01 would be much of a consolation to the best team since their team is likely good enough they could simply keep their super team, trade for the 1.01 and likely have a better team than what they would get tearing it down. I like the creativity and this definitely would accomplish the goal. However, I believe you’d want to be able to let teams play out with the team they built. If all teams are getting redrafted with a partner. Why not just end it and do a new league? Again, love the creativity and it would accomplish an even playing field for the final year. I just think the costs of making that happen are too high. I’m sure some leagues would be on board for this, but it isn’t one I’d recommend. I also don’t know that a perfect way exists. So it’s all about what your league wants.
Gents,
Starting my 1st auction startup since Sleeper recently started auctions. Problem is figuring out if everyone should have a set rookie budget after the startup for 2022 (say $1000) or trade draft picks that have $ values associated to them once final standings are over? (1.01-$1000, 1.02-$950, 1.03-$900 etc etc) what is the best and most fair way to do this? If someone goes the “productive struggle” route in the startup everyone having $1000 after the startup seems unfair since they would likely have an early pick in a standard format league. Trying to figure out how to do this while also making money or picks available for trade has been a headache. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Mike!
Basically you want to know how to allocate rookie dollars for a rookie auction in following years after the dynasty startup. We can help!!!
Here is how Ryan and I do rookie money for leagues that do rookie auctions: https://scottfishbowl.com/rookiemoney.php
There are more ways than this… and I probably need to tweak mine. This page has what Ryan and I do for our leagues and also a downloadable excel template for working on making it for your league!
Hi Scott and Ryan,
Love the show.
I am starting a 6 league cup series very similar to the DLF cup series. Actually exactly like it. I basically stole the idea because it was such a good one.
I did a similar set up with 4 leagues last year and had 1 LeagueSafe for all 48 teams.
I would like to do 6 separate LeagueSafe leagues for the new league since it was cumbersome to deal with such a large pool and want the commissioner of each league to follow up on the fees.
The issue I see with doing 6 separate is the cup payouts after 3 years. At least 1 league will need to payout cup prize money to someone that's not in that particular LeagueSafe league.
Hope this makes sense and that you might have some suggestions.
Keep up the great work guys,
Ernie
We might touch on this on the show… It sounds like you have 6 commissioners running each of the 6 leagues. I can think of a couple ways ways that make sense. The first one seems easiest. Add the cup winner to each of the 6 leagues. Then you should be able to allocate the money to them in 6 parts one payment from each league. Another way would be, despite having 6 different commissioners… have one commish for all 6 on leaguesafe. One person handles each of the leaguesafe leagues. He can then allocate to himself in each and pay the cup winner outside of leaguesafe. If the leaguesafe leagues have different commissioners already… pick a trustworthy commissioner and add him to each league. If the cup is won, allocate the Cup money from each league to that one chosen trustworthy person and then that commissioner can pay the Cup winner outside of leaguesafe. Hope that helps!
Don’t know if this has been done to this extreme, but we started our Hot Sauce Listener League this week and the major quirk of the league is that we will be drafting everyone’s future 1st’s instead of automatically getting one’s own. So in the startup we’ll be selecting 2022 and 2023 1st’s, and then in next year’s rookie draft, we’ll include 2024 1st’s to be selected along with rookies. As of this writing we have not had a future 1st selected, but everyone is anticipating the organic trash talking that will most certainly ensue. We plan on continuing this in perpetuity so long as the league isn’t completely wrecked. Wanted to hear you guys’ thoughts on this experiment.

Hey Justin,
This is very common for startups… but far less so for following rookie drafts. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve heard of that. Dispersals, of course... but just normal rookie drafts… interesting. Maybe Ryan has. I wonder the reasoning for that (outside of just being a fun idea… more of a “consider the why”) and the impacts it would have. For example would more teams try to win now since they don’t have to select their rookie picks. Would knowing your rookie pick for the following year a year in advance change the way you decide to attack the season (it would have to for some, right?) I wanted the people reading the newsletter to see this, but it will definitely get discussed on the show so Ryan and I can think out the effects. Very interesting!
Thanks to all of you for writing in and thanks for letting us know where you are from. Love that. We have more shows coming soon and thanks for subscribing to the newsletter!

I wanted to share something that I have used to set the draft order in many of the leagues that I run. You're welcome to share in upcoming newsletters. It's a little complicated, but when has that ever stopped anyone in fantasy football. This system is also a lot of fun. More important, it's random AND observable so owners can follow along from across the country.
Basically, I use horse races at a given track on a given day to generate the draft order.
First, you pick the race day and track.
Second, you take a list of owners and put them in alphabetical order.
Third, you assign each owner to each race, depending on where they stand in the alphabetized list.
(Example: Hank Aaron would be first on the list and he'd be assigned to the winning horse in Race 1)
Fourth, you track the results from each race. At the end of the day, you put the list of winning horses in alphabetical order. Each owner gets the draft slot based on where they stand in that alphabetized list of winning horses.
(Example: If Sam Zeff is assigned to the 12th race, but "Aardvark's Delight" wins in the 12th, then Zeff picks 1st.)
Again, it's random on multiple levels and is observable from anywhere in the country.
What's more, the draft order can change throughout the day as the results from each race come in. As an added bonus, you can also place side wagers on the horses that are actually running. Zeff, for example, could have seen the entries for the 12th race and known that he had to put some money down on "Aardvark's Delight."
And they're off...
All best,
Steve
